Desarrolla su labor clínica en el sistema público de salud en Asturias, compaginándola con la docencia en la Universidad de Oviedo y la investigación clínica.
Desde hace más de 20 años, trabaja en la intersección entre medicina, ética y cooperación al desarrollo.
Vicepresidenta del Comité de Bioética de España y presidenta del Comité Científico de la Sociedad Internacional de Bioética (SIBI). Ha participado activamente en la creación e impulso de comités de ética asistencial y grupos de bioética en sociedades científicas como la Asociación Española de Pediatría (AEP) y la Sociedad Española de Endocrinología Pediátrica (SEEP). Coordina además un programa transversal de formación en ética para residentes en ciencias de la salud, que utiliza el cine como herramienta de reflexión y diálogo.
En el ámbito de la cooperación internacional, es cofundadora de la ONGD Arco Iris – Educación para el Desarrollo, donde ha promovido proyectos de salud y educación en comunidades vulnerables. También ha liderado el Grupo de Cooperación al Desarrollo de la AEP.
Su enfoque combina mirada clínica, sensibilidad bioética y compromiso social.
A pediatrician, she works in the Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes Unit at the University Hospital of Asturias (Oviedo). She holds a PhD in Medicine and a Master's degree in Bioethics (Complutense University of Madrid). She is a researcher at CIBERESP and the Institute for Health Research of the Principality of Asturias (ISPA). She is an Associate Professor of Health Sciences at the University of Oviedo.
She carries out her clinical work in the public healthcare system in Asturias, combining it with teaching at the University of Oviedo and clinical research.
For over 20 years, she has worked at the intersection of medicine, ethics, and development cooperation.
She is Vice-President of the Spanish Bioethics Committee and President of the Scientific Committee of the International Society for Bioethics (SIBI). She has actively participated in the creation and promotion of clinical ethics committees and bioethics groups within scientific societies such as the Spanish Pediatric Association (AEP) and the Spanish Society of Pediatric Endocrinology (SEEP). She also coordinates a cross-disciplinary ethics training program for residents in the health sciences, which uses film as a tool for reflection and discussion.
In the field of international cooperation, she is a co-founder of the NGO Arco Iris – Education for Development, where she has promoted health and education projects in vulnerable communities. She has also led the Development Cooperation Group of the AEP. Her approach combines clinical expertise, bioethical sensitivity, and social commitment.
